She was born on 28 May 1944 to bookmaker James Connolly Quinn and his wife, Rebecca, in Belfast, Northern Ireland. She had early training as an actress at Princess Gardens Grammar School, where she also studied.

At 17, she moved to London after performing at the Arts Theatre and British Drama League in Belfast. She began her career in the adult entertainment industry in 1969, first as a blackjack dealer at the Playboy Club in Mayfair and then as a Bunny at the Drama Centre London. 1971, she spent six months performing with Glasgow’s Citizens Theatre in their repertory.

Quinn’s most famous role was as Magenta in The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975). Her disembodied lips move to the tune of the film’s theme song, “Science Fiction/Double Feature” (sung by actor and writer Richard O’Brien).

For the 1975 TV show The Love School, she portrayed Elizabeth Siddal. She played Livilla, Emperor Claudius’ sister, in the 1976 film I, Claudius. In the 1978 episode “Look After Annie,” she also portrayed Isla for The Professionals.

Shock Treatment, a semi-sequel to The Rocky Horror Picture Show, features her in one of her numerous film and television performances.

She is a “Woman” in Hawk the Slayer (1980).

She played the role of Lucinda Jessop in the 1981 episode of Hammer House of Horror titled “Witching Time,” featured in Monty Python’s The Meaning of Life in 1983, and starred in the Doctor Who series Dragonfire in 1987. In 2002’s Bang-Bang-a-Boom!, she returned to Doctor Who as an alien queen. Resuming her former life as a DJ and club kitten in September 2006, she now holds a monthly event called “Club Myra” at different locations in the heart of London.

She sang “Accident and Emergency” with Patrick Wolf during a performance in London back in April of 2007.
